Art Ripping

Yep, it's happened to me.

While searching for more Cid Highwind art, there was a particular deviation of him that struck me as familiar. And no wonder. It was a pretty much a traced copy of him from 'Captain Vs Captain' but flipped horizontally and altered somewhat.

Check out the similarities here. The deviation in question is in the middle; my art is on either side of it.

I've already contacted the artist about this. I told them that it's fine if they want to copy or use the pose. But at the least, the decent thing to do would be to make reference to the original art.

Now out of respect to the artist whom I suspect is underage, I won't name names. But simply put, to all you art rippers out there: it's not on.

Do not think for a moment that you can get away with using skill and talent that is not your own.

Art thieves suck ass, I've had it happen to me before and it's horrible ; ; Whenever I want to copy a pose or particular styles of someone's I always ask them before I even begin... I wish other people would do the same thing =/
OMG!

How can exist people without shame to reply another's draw?
At least, he/she must demand artist's permission.

If this can feel you better, people only copy good art >uO

(Sorry for the bad English >_<;)

I also suspect that the person in question is around 14 if not younger.

But it's still not a decent thing to copy someone else's art and claim it as one's own. And the worst thing about it is that he/she didn't even change much about the picture. But I think, being younger and inexperienced, the person probably thought that it's not too suspicious and no one will notice.

I'll admit that I also tend to 'copy' poses, but not trace them, and not from other people's drawings, but more like from dolls, or photos I find in magazines when I find a pose I think looks good or suits the picture I plan to make.

Mm. I've used pics as refrence before, mostly costume and such, but I always ask first and put the creator in the comments, y'know? >> Or else I feel really bad about it. o__o But That sucks. Well I hope the artist does the right thing. O__O Sorry that happened to you. T__T

SokaNine Fan. What NOW?!
All I have to say is this: blasphemous. My art's never been ripped before (or that I know of... but, not that I really care, because well.. fanart... is fanart... but whatever, my philosophy's a little... yeah...) so unfortunately, I can't sympathize. But, good luck with sorting it out and all.

Stop! Hammertime.

Yeah, it really sucks when art thieves rip from little to unknown artists rather than well known ones (ie, *makani, *minties, *JohnSu) as they are more likely to get away with it. >:\

Even though the artist will most likely be underage, they must learn that this behaviour is unacceptable either in real life or online. I just hope they respond to my private note in a mature way.

'How about a nice cup of STFU?'

True, it might just be fanart but the heart of the matter is that they didn't accomplish it through their own merit.

If they wanna copy or trace, then that's fine. An acknowledgement would be the respectful thing to do, but I'll chalk it down to their age.

Same here, or if the original artist/author is unavailable for contact then at least a mention of them somewhere in the comments.

At least there are still some decent people left.

I agree with you 100%.

Seeing as you're older and more experienced, let's just hope that the person will have some sort of respect towards you to give you a mature reply and understand why the thing he did is wrong.
